Making images, not babies

day 2

July30

it was really interesting to hear how unhealthy margarine is from you guys! we’ll definetly be NOT eating that anymore. so, here’s the menu today with even worse pictures.

breakfast was one big peach and cranberry muffin, which i added up the calories and totalled at around 270.

lunch we got at the “Bear Rock Cafe” in furniture land south (we bought our couch and a rug!! there was a 50% sale on, awesome). It consisted of flatbread, chicken, peppers and BBQ sauce. I asked for no cheese :(

Dinner was mini pizzas with turkey pepperoni, lettuce, onions and chicken. Dessert was sorbet again, this time with peaches and grapes.

A couple of people asked for the recipe we used to make sorbet! It’s super easy, so I will share below:

step 1:

Put in a food processor 1pint of blueberries, 1 medium pear and 1 medium peach

whiz it around until it is really smooth

add and a teeny tiny bit of salt (1/8 tsp)

step 2:

with 1 cup of boiling water, add 1/2 cup of sugar and stir until its dissolved

step 3:

strain the fruit mixture until any seeds/bits have come out and discard them

step 4:

mix the fruit and the syrup (sugar water) together and freeze until its solid

step 5:

when its frozen, take it out. cut it up and put it in the food processor again. this makes it look more like sorbet/less like an ice lolly

step 6:

stir in dried cranberries, re-freeze mixture

and voila! Its incredibly good. and healthy!

hey so i am very happy to hear about you guys eating healthy and what not, and also about the whole no dairy thing.

have you read the book Skinny Bitch? it’s why i’m a vegetarian and there’s also a ton of helpful, fun information in it about staying healthy and eating well as a lifestyle - not a diet.

    enjoy!

You guys seem to be muffin-crazed. Why so many muffins????

I think they deserve their own portrait…..

    Hey Rosie & Aaron :)
I have been a “silent observer” of your blog for a while now, so i figured id better comment at some point :)

I think its really sensible/cool of you to think about eating better. especially when crap food is incredibly cheap to eat as an alternative to making a whole meal from scratch etc.. i admire you both! Me & My fiance tried to eat better a few months back, just by eating less of the bad stuff, and making everything ourselves. No pre-made stuff for us anymore :)

Anyway, i just thought id take the opportunity to wish you both the best of luck in your new apartment, and a lifetime of happiness together…which ever country you live in. :) Hayley.

Bear Rock! Their flatbread sandwiches are an excellent choice. Are you guys shopping around Chapel Hill, or were you in another city? B/c if i’m thinking of the right place, then you were right by where I work! =D How exciting!

    Welcome to America!

Peach and cranberry muffin? Yummm. Those are two of my favorite flavors, and the combination reflects my roots in New England and North Carolina. Do you have a recipe? By the way, I love your photography and enjoy the website, even as a non-photographer.

hey guys! i have been following u both on flickr for a while and i come to the blog every now and then. Its not my bussiness, but you should eat dairy!! My husband and I are both on a diet, ever since we started living together, years ago before being married, we gained so much weight! My best friend from high school is a nutricionist and made us the BEST diet. It does include dairy in low amounts but the most important thing is that its low or no fat at all. Same with cheese: fresh, white cheese is very much ok, just like cottage cheese. Which is yum! Trust us, we have lost 4kg in less than two months and havent starved at all. So thats what my advice was :) Oh and instead of butter/oil/margarine, we use this canned spray oil called PAM and its the best for cooking.

    Wish you the best

Was just doing some random googling…and came across the flickr photos you guys did. Honestly I have never seen anything even half as breathtaking in print. I am a designer and do a lot of visual work myself, you guys literally take photoshopping to a new level, all the images were not just fabulous, but haunting…they really touched my heart.

On the emotional side, I was in a 4yr long, long distance relationship which didn’t quite work out after which I promised myself I would never let it happen to me again, a couple of months ago I met someone…but as the heart braces itself for impact, I was having doubts. Then I saw your photoset and somehow it gave me hope, you can never give up on love, no matter what…

Thank you Rosie and Aron, you are a beautiful couple…wish you guys all the best,
    Samantha…from Italy :)

ive done alot of food research and i dont eat dairy or meat[im vegan].
there is 2 margerines out there that work great and are not like any others.
the original is called earth balance and its vegan. theres no partially hydrogenated fats in it, and you can get it organic. theres also an identical one put out by the brand smart balance. they have a tons of different “variations” and products though so you have to look carefully at which one your getting.
i use them sparingly as they are expensive and even though they are technically “healthier” then regular butter and nasty trans fats margerines, they still on the fatty side. :D but if you really need that buttery-ness theyre an awesome alternative.

also if you want an ice-creamy dessert, theres this trick that is SO simple and good.
all you do is peel a banana, freeze it, and throw it in the blender and give it a good whirl. and serve it :) it feels like soft serve and it tastes like banana ice cream…its amazzing. anndd you dont have to add ANY sugar, which is good because thats just empty calories. :)

sorry, this turned out to be super long!
